COSTUMING THE BAROQUE

This costume was designed for a performance piece as part of The National Gallery's Friday late events: Costuming the Baroque

This print design is part of a costume inspired by the story of St. Cecilia, painted by Pietro da Cortona.

For this print design I wanted to deisgn something that really felt Baroque, whilst also being tailored to the character. The rose being a centre piece of this design went without question, but I've incorporated some of the other symbols Cecilia is often depiceted with in the print as well: the palm leaf represents her martyrdom, and the portable organ reminds people of the hymns she sang to God.
